This embellished Spanish stitch sampler was inspired by bands and stitches found on seventeenth century samplers residing in museums and private collections. The majority of these samplers were first stitched in double running then embellished with stitches over the base stitching.

Although this model has been stitched on 36 count linen using cotton floss the student may wish to substitute a different fabric and her favorite stitching threads. Students should have a solid knowledge of the double running stitch to complete the 20 hours of pre-stitching.
