This embellished Spanish stitch sampler developed from documented seventeenth century samplers. The majority of samplers from this era were first stitched in double running, or Spanish stitch, then embellished with stitches over the base stitching. This intermediate sampler has been embellished with stitches used during the seventeenth century. Although the model is stitched on Congress cloth with silk a kit is also offered in cotton floss. The student may substitute another fabric, if desired. Details will be given in the student's letter. A solid knowledge of the double running stitch is required to complete the 18 hours or more of pre-work.
